Hey everyone! It's Sunday again, so that means that it's time for another review! This time, we're going to look at another Lois Lowry book, which I think I mentioned earlier. I have reviewed two other Lois Lowry novels, which you can find here and here. Today's book is called Number the Stars. It has won the 1990 Newbery Medal award, and has remained a bestselling children's book, even 30 years after publication.
Annemarie Johansen is the book's main character. At age ten, she has already seen many worrying sights, growing up in Denmark under Nazi occupation. Jewish people are disappearing left and right around the world, which is scary because Annemarie's best friend, Ellen, is Jewish. When Nazis start capturing Jews in Copenhagen, where she lives, Ellen and her family have to hide. Peter, the former fiancé of her late sister Lise, helps Ellen's parents into hiding, while Ellen pretends to be Lise herself. Annemarie's mother transports, Annemarie, Ellen, and Annemarie's five-year-old sister Kirsti to the Danish countryside and her brother's house to help protect Ellen from the ever-interfering Nazis.

I like this book because it has many moments of suspense and points where you think Ellen is going to be captured. Some parts can even be tear-jerking, if you are an extremely sensitive person. Emotions are captured perfectly, and Lois Lowry has outdone herself. Schools often read this to their class, but it is even more amazing if you read this by yourself. I have read this book four times: twice at school, and twice at home by myself. I really recommend this book.
